In Islamabad, Justice Umar Ata Bandial took oath as Chief Justice of Pakistan. President Arif Ali took oath.

According to Lahore High Court records, the 26th Chief Justice of the country, Justice Umar Ata Bandial was born on September 17, 1958 in Lahore.
He got his primary and secondary education from different schools in Kohat, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Lahore and did his BA from Lahore.
He holds a degree in economics from Columbia University in the United States, followed by a law degree from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom and a barrister at law from Lincoln's in London.
He joined the Lahore High Court in 1983 as an Advocate and a few years later started practicing law in Lahore as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
During this time, Justice Umar Ata Bandial dealt mostly with commercial, banking, tax and property matters.
Justice Omar Ata Bandial also handled international trade disputes from 1993 until he took office.
He also appeared before the Supreme Court of Pakistan in arbitration cases and international arbitration tribunals in London and Paris.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial became a judge of the Lahore High Court on December 4, 2004.
He refused to take oath under the PCO in November 2007 but was reinstated as a Lahore High Court judge following a movement by lawyers and civil society to restore the judiciary and constitutional rule in the country.
He served as the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court for two years till his promotion as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in June 2014.
During his career as a judge of the Lahore High Court and the Supreme Court, Justice Umar Ata Bandial delivered judgments on a number of important public law and private law issues.
These include civil and trade disputes, constitutional rights and matters of public interest.
He taught Contract Law and Tarts Law at Punjab University Law College Lahore till 1987 and served as a judge of Lahore High Court and was a member of its Graduate Studies Committee.
According to the law of the Supreme Court, at the age of 63, Justice Omar Atabandial will be the Chief Justice for one year, six months and 25 days from February 2, 2022 to September 16, 2023.
