In the second round of the seventh edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL), Peshawar Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators by 24 runs.

 

In pursuit of the target of 186 runs, Quetta Gladiators scored 161 runs in the allotted 20 overs, while Will Smaid remained prominent by scoring 99 runs.

 

In the match played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Zalmai's captain Wahab Riaz won the toss and elected to bat first.

Zalmai scored 185 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Shoaib Malik remained prominent by scoring 58 runs.

Peshawar Zalmai's innings:

Zalmai's start was not good at all, opener Hazratullah Zazai was one while Liam Livingston returned to the pavilion at zero.

After losing 2 wickets, Muhammad Haris and veteran batsman Shoaib Malik formed a 52-run partnership. However, Harris was dismissed for 29 off 17 balls while Shoaib Malik played an innings of 58 runs.

Besides, Hussain Talat was dismissed for 51 off 32 balls while Zalmai scored 185 in the allotted overs thanks to Ben Cutting's aggressive batting in the closing overs. He returned to the pavilion with 36 off 14 balls.

Naseem Shah took 4 wickets for Quetta.

In pursuit of the target of 186 runs, opener Jason Roy was dismissed for 13 runs while James Venus returned to the pavilion at zero while captain Sarfraz Ahmed played an innings of 25 runs.

However, on the other hand, the opener Will Smith batted brilliantly but he too could not win the match for his team. He played an innings of 99 off 60 balls.

In addition, Iftikhar Ahmed scored 10 runs, Quetta Gladiators scored 161 runs for 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs and Zalmi won by 24 runs.

For Peshawar Zalmai, Usman Qadir took 3 wickets while Salman Irshad took 2 wickets.

The top 4 teams in the PSL will qualify for the knockout stage. However, after this victory, Peshawar Zalmi's team has gained 2 valuable points and is at the fourth position in the points table with 2 matches remaining.
