In the seventh edition match of Pakistan Super League (PSL), Islamabad United defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 5 wickets and eliminated them from the event and also qualified for the second eliminator.
In the first eliminator of the event played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and invited Islamabad United to bowl first.
Zalmai started the innings The openers gave the team a 30-run lead but on the same score the young Muhammad Haris ended the innings who scored 12 runs while Yasir Khan also scored only 8 runs.
Kamran Akmal, who was at the other end, scored a half-century after a while and added 40 runs with Shoaib Malik to take the score to 98. The wicket-keeper-batsmen were dismissed after scoring 58 off 39 balls.
Hussain Talat came to support Sharib Malik and both of them batted aggressively and added 56 runs in just 26 balls to pave the way for the team to reach a good score. Hussain scored 28 runs off 15 balls.
Shoaib Malik once again played a good innings and scored a half century and was dismissed in the last over of the innings after scoring 55 off 43 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 4 fours.
Peshawar Zalmi scored 169 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the stipulated overs.
Hassan Ali was the most successful bowler for Islamabad United with three wickets while Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf took one wicket each.
When Islamabad United started the innings, the duo of Alex Hales and Will Jacks gave the team a 34-run lead after which Will Jacks went on to score 11 runs.
Shadab Khan teamed up with Alex Hales to add 33 runs and take the score to 77 but on the same combination, captain Shadab scored 22 runs and Salman Irshad took the wicket.
Alex Hales continued his excellent batting from the other end and completed the team's century as well as his half-century. After scoring runs, Salman became the third wicket.
After losing four wickets for 119 runs, it seemed that United might not be able to achieve the target, but Faheem Ashraf and Azam Khan formed a good partnership and turned the tide of the match in their team's favor.
When Azam Khan was dismissed for 28 in the last over of the match, United needed 10 more runs to win but Liam Dawson came on the field with a six and a four to lead his team to victory.
After winning the match by 5 wickets, Islamabad United will now face Lahore Qalandars in the second eliminator of the league.
Earlier, several changes were made in the squad of Islamabad United for the match and captain Shadab Khan as well as Alex Hales and Hassan Ali have returned to the team.
Both teams were composed of these players for the match.
