Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has accepted the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar after which the provincial cabinet has been dissolved.

The Governor Punjab has accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Usman Bazdar and has also convened a meeting of the Punjab Assembly on Saturday, April 2, the agenda of which includes election of Quaid-e-Awan.

Following the acceptance of the resignation of the Chief Minister by the Governor of Punjab, the Provincial Cabinet has been dissolved and a notification to de-notify the Provincial Cabinet has also been issued.

After the resignation of the Chief Minister was accepted, the no-confidence motion against him in the Punjab Assembly became ineffective.

The Governor Punjab has convened the 40th session of the Provincial Assembly under Article 109 of the Constitution of Pakistan, in which a new Chief Minister of Punjab will be elected under Article 130 of the Constitution.

It may be recalled that Usman Bazdar had the most important meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad on March 28 in which he tendered his resignation to the Prime Minister.

Minister of State Farrukh Habib had said that "Chief Minister Usman Bazdar has tendered his resignation to the Prime Minister and Imran Khan has decided to nominate Chaudhry Pervez Elahi as the Chief Minister of Punjab".

Later, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Speaker Punjab Assembly and senior PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi met and in the same meeting, the Prime Minister announced the nomination of Pervez Elahi as the new Chief Minister of Punjab.

It may be recalled that the opposition parties had also filed a no-confidence motion in the Punjab Assembly against Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar after Prime Minister Imran Khan.

With the no-confidence motion, the recusal of the assembly session was submitted to Secretary Punjab Assembly Muhammad Khan Bhatti with the signatures of PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) members.

It should be noted that Usman Bazdar was sworn in as the Chief Minister on August 20, 2018.
