The Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has sent four names to the Speaker of the National Assembly for setting up a parliamentary committee to appoint a caretaker Prime Minister in the country.

It may be recalled that the Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser had written letters to the caretaker Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif seeking the names of members to form a parliamentary committee which would appoint a caretaker Prime Minister before the next elections.

On the other hand, Shahbaz Sharif had also informed President Arif Alvi in a letter that the opposition would no longer be a part of any action after the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan was rejected.
Shahbaz Sharif had also rejected the nomination of former Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed for the post of caretaker Prime Minister and termed the move as an open attempt to violate the provisions of the constitution. Writing continues.
In his letter, the Speaker of the National Assembly had asked Imran Khan and Shahbaz Sharif to nominate an eight-member parliamentary committee under Article 224 (1) (a) of the Constitution for the appointment of caretaker Prime Minister.
The article states that if the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing National Assembly do not agree on a name for the appointment of the caretaker Prime Minister within three days of the dissolution of the Assembly, then both the Speaker of the National Assembly We will send two nominations for the committee to be formed.

The committee will consist of eight members of the outgoing National Assembly or the Senate or both, with equal representation of government and opposition members, and will nominate members of the committee, namely the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition, respectively.
It may be recalled that Prime Minister Imran Khan had on April 4 nominated former Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed for the post of caretaker Prime Minister.
Earlier, President Arif Alawi had written a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif seeking a suitable name for the post of caretaker Prime Minister under Article 224A-1 of the Constitution.
The letter asked both the persons to nominate a suitable person for the post of caretaker Prime Minister under Article 224A (1) of the Constitution of Pakistan.

PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif had said that he would not be a part of this process as it was illegal.
He had said that the President and the Prime Minister had broken the law and the question was how they could contact the opposition.
It may be recalled that on April 3, Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri had rejected the opposition's no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister.
In his address to the nation just minutes after the rolling of the Deputy Speaker, Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that he had sent advice to the President to dissolve the Assembly.
In a statement issued from the Presidency, Dr. Arif Alvi had said that the National Assembly and the Federal Cabinet were dissolved on April 3, 2022 under Article (1) 58 of the Constitution.
The President had said that Prime Minister Imran Khan would continue to be the Prime Minister till the appointment of caretaker Prime Minister under Article 224A4 of the Constitution.
