Addressing the farewell function, Justice Maqbool Baqir of the Supreme Court said that non-inclusion of special judges in sensitive cases undermines the independence and dignity of the judiciary.

A full court reference was arranged in the Supreme Court in honor of the retirement of Justice Maqbool Baqir, which was attended by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial and other judges of the Supreme Court, Attorney General, senior lawyers and bar representatives.

Addressing the full court reference, Justice Maqbool Baqir said that he tried his best to play his role in improving access to justice and witnessed the removal of Chief Justice during the 2007 Emergency.
He said unbalanced judicial activism was the cause of death for the rule of law.
Justice Maqbool Baqir said that despite all efforts, the judiciary could not meet the expectations of the sailan.
Addressing the full court reference, he said that he understood that political and social affiliations should not come in the way of constitutional responsibility.
He said it would be disastrous for any judge tenure and decisions to be subject to the approval of powerful circles.

He said that in order to understand Article 6 of the Constitution, one has to keep in mind the incident of 2007.
The Attorney General said that nowadays Article 6 is easily used against political opponents, which is unfortunate.
