The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase of Rs 7.91 per unit in the price of electricity.

Under the NEPRA Act, the government is required to file an application for the determination of uniform tariff for all discs and after inclusion of subsidy / surcharge amount, uniform tariff is fixed by NEPRA which The Government of Pakistan is informed about this and it is forwarded to them for issuing the declaration
NEPRA has sent a notification to the government after the increase and a statement in this regard will be issued by the government soon.
This amount is charged to the customers after the notification is issued.

After an increase of Rs 7.91 per unit in tariffs, the average tariff for FY 23-2022 has become 24.82 which was earlier Rs 16.91 per unit.
NEPRA said that the increase in tariff was due to increase in oil prices and cost as well as depreciation of rupee.
The average cost of purchasing energy is estimated at Rs 1,152 billion while the total cost including NTDC and HVDC is Rs 1,366 billion.
