20 people were killed and 6 injured as a result of a collision between a passenger bus and an oil tanker on the Multan-Sukhar Motorway (M-5).
Multan Deputy Commissioner Tahir Vito confirmed the incident in a statement and said that a passenger bus traveling from Lahore to Karachi collided with an oil tanker from behind at the Jalalpur Pirwala interchange on the motorway.
The statement added that after the collision, a fire broke out and 20 people died on the spot.

He further informed that the seriously injured have been shifted to Nishtar Hospital while emergency has been imposed on Nishtar Hospital and Jalalpur medical centers.
Later, Commissioner Multan Aamir Khattak also confirmed the incident in a tweet and said that the accident took place around 4 am.
In the photos shared by him on his Twitter account, it can be seen that the bus and the oil tanker were completely burnt as a result of the accident.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Tahruto and CPO Khurram Shahzad Haider visited Nishtar Hospital and visited the injured.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the Punjab government has directed full support to the injured in the accident, while the search for the identification of the deceased passengers and their relatives has been started, DNA test process is being started to identify the bodies.
Rescue officials said that as a result of the collision, the bus and the oil tanker caught fire, rescue teams reached the accident site and the injured were shifted to the hospital.

Speaking in this regard, the Motorway Police said that the accident took place around 2:30 pm last night.
Spokesperson Motorway Police said that there were thousands of liters of petrol in the oil tanker, apparently the reason for the accident was that the bus driver fell asleep during the journey.
Reza Shahzad son of Sohail Shahzad, Raees son of Ibrahim, Shoaib son of Ghulam Muhammad, Irfan son of Muhammad Shabir, Fariha Shah wife of Shahid Bhatti and Maheen daughter of Shahid Bhatti are among the injured, but the process of identifying the deceased is still going on.
Secretary Health South Punjab Muhammad Iqbal has expressed regret over the traffic accident on the highway and directed to provide free and best medical facilities to the injured.
Condolence
Meanwhile, President Malik Dr. Arif Alvi has expressed deep sorrow and regret over the loss of precious lives in the accident on the motorway.
The President also prayed for high status for the deceased, patience for the families and recovery of the injured.
Taking notice of the incident, the President has directed to provide all possible medical assistance to the injured.
The instructions issued by the President further said that 'effective measures should be taken to avoid such accidents, implementation of safety measures and adherence to traffic rules are very important to avoid such accidents'.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed regret over the incident and said that the oil tanker accident at Jalalpur Pirwala Interchange is very tragic. I am saddened by the loss of 20 precious lives.
In his tweet, he said, "My prayers are with the bereaved families, I pray to Allah Almighty to give the deceased a place in His mercy and give patience to the bereaved".
On the other hand, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has also expressed deep sorrow and regret over the loss of precious human lives in the accident.
He said that every eye is in tears over this tragic accident, the Punjab government is an equal participant in the grief of the families of the deceased, all our sympathies are with the families of the deceased.
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi directed the administration to provide the best treatment facilities to the injured.
Chaudhry Pervez Elahi asked the Commissioner Multan for a report on the tragic incident and directed that an inquiry be made from all aspects to determine those responsible for the negligence.
