The head of Myanmar's military government has said he will consider releasing Nobel laureate leader Aung San Suu Kyi from prison to house arrest after the verdict in the cases against him.

According to the report of the foreign news agency "Reuters", the written statement of the head of the military government, Min Aung Hlaing, was released on state television, in which he said that he will consider the matter after the decision. They have not been harshly charged and shown mercy even though we could have done more.

The statement by Myanmar's military ruler came in response to a request by a top UN official, who visited Myanmar this week, to allow Aung San Suu Kyi to be sent home.

Aung San Suu Kyi, who was ousted last year after a military coup, was moved to a prison in the capital Naypyidaw in June, where she has been held in solitary confinement.

It should be noted that 77-year-old deposed Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi has spent almost half of the last three decades under house arrest.

Since the coup, the Nobel laureate has been indicted on at least 18 charges ranging from corruption to election violations and has already served several years in prison.

Aung San Suu Kyi rejected all the allegations against her as baseless.

Aung San Suu Kyi, the daughter of Myanmar's independence hero, was first placed under house arrest in 1989 after protesting decades of military rule.

He then campaigned for democracy in 1991, for which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, but was released from detention in 2010.
