The mourning processions of 9th Muharram Al Haram across the country reached the designated destination through traditional routes under strict security arrangements and ended peacefully.



To prevent any untoward incident across the country, mobile phone service has been suspended in some areas and strict security arrangements have been made as part of the comprehensive security plan devised by the law enforcement agencies.

The Sindh government had banned helicams or drones used for video recording of media channels during processions and congregations from 8th to 10th Muharram.

Similarly, the administration of Islamabad has imposed emergency in all the hospitals of the capital while 2200 police personnel were deployed during today's procession.

Peshawar Police said that there are serious threats to the security of the processions, but all measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the procession.

Karachi
The main procession of the city started from Nishtar Park this afternoon and passed through Mahfil Shah Khorasan and ended at Hussainiya Iraniyan Imambargah in Kharadar.

According to the spokesperson of Sindh Police, 5 thousand 313 police personnel have been deployed for the security and monitoring of the main routes of the main procession.

Snipers of the Special Security Unit have also been deployed on the procession routes.

The spokesman further said that 1000 traffic police personnel have been deployed to ensure smooth flow of traffic on alternative routes/roads.

The Sindh Police urged citizens to keep a close watch on suspicious persons and report any emergency to the police through its helpline.

Earlier, Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab along with provincial ministers Sharjeel Memon and Saeed Ghani visited the Central Police Office and reviewed the work of monitoring the processions.

Lahore
The main procession in Lahore started from Pandu Street, Islampura and will pass through the designated routes and end at the same street.

The procession passed through Alamgir Road and reached its first destination at Siraj Building Chowk where the mourners offered Zuhr Namaz.

The procession then passed through Islampura's main market, Nelibar Chowk and Civil Secretariat to reach Old Anarkali in the evening where the mourners will have a short stay to offer Maghrib prayers.

The procession passed through the designated routes and ended at Pandu Street around midnight.

Quetta
The main procession of 9 Muharram Al-Haram in Quetta left from Imam Bargah Nasir Al-Azza after Zuhr prayer and ended at the same place through its traditional routes.

DIG Police Quetta Fida Hussain Shah told a press conference yesterday that there are 57 Imambargahs in the city, out of which 24 are highly sensitive and 23 are sensitive.

More than 5,000 police and FC personnel have been deployed in the city, while business centers located along the procession routes will remain closed on 9 and 10 Muharram.

The senior officer had said that mobile phone services will also remain suspended from 6 am to 12 pm in various areas.

Peshawar
The main procession in the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa left Imambargah Hussainiya Hall at 10 am and the mourners halted for a while at Kali Bari area to offer Zuhr prayers.

The procession passed through its traditional routes and ended at Imambargah Hussainiya.

SSP Operations Peshawar Kashif Aftab Abbasi said that the procession routes were facing severe security threats but the police had taken comprehensive and foolproof measures to protect the mourning processions.

He said in a statement that more than 11 thousand policemen have been deployed across the city.

He said that more than 1,000 personnel have been deployed in the Sadar region alone for the security of the procession today.

Later, SSP Operations visited the procession routes and reviewed the security arrangements.

Islamabad
Islamabad Capital Police Chief Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan said that a central control room has been established to monitor processions in Safe City Islamabad.

He had said that mobile phone services will remain suspended in several areas due to security reasons.

The IG Police had further said that strict vigilance will be maintained by the police to ensure safety measures and SOPs and instructions issued by the government will be followed.

He said that the bomb disposal squad will check the routes using robots and advanced technology during the entry and all the people will be allowed to participate in the procession only after complete checking.
