Year-on-year inflation in the country reached a record high of 44.58 percent in the week ending August 25.
According to the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), as measured by the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), prices of essential commodities including tomatoes, onions, garlic, edible oil and fuel have increased. This inflation has been recorded.

Earlier, the country had recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of 42.3 percent in the week ending August 18.
The latest report shows that the SPI rose by 1.83% on a weekly basis, which had increased to 3.35% last week.
SPI monitors the prices of 51 commodities based on 50 market-based surveys in 17 cities across the country.

In the week under review, 23 out of 51 commodities recorded an increase in prices, while 7 commodities decreased in price and the remaining 21 commodities remained stable.

Tomatoes: 178.1 percent
Onion: 155.14 percent
High Speed Diesel: 108.77 percent
Petrol: 94.53 percent
Lentils: 90.74 percent
Edible oil (five kg): 70.6 percent

Tomatoes: 43.1 percent
Onion: 41.13 percent
Potato: 6.32 percent
Eggs: 3.43 percent
Cigarettes: 2.26 percent
Garlic: 2.23 percent
Items with weekly price reductions
Lentils: 1.18 percent
Ghee (one kg): 1 percent
Ghee (two and a half kg): 0.82 percent
Bananas: 0.61 percent
Edible oil (five liters): 0.51 percent
Sugar: 0.28 percent
