US President Joe Biden ordered airstrikes to target "facilities used by Iranian-backed militias" in eastern Syria.
According to a report published in the mak news-21, Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesman Col. Joe Buckino claimed in a statement that the attacks in the oil-rich province of Deir Ezzor were "under the control of groups affiliated with Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps." The use was targeted at infrastructure installations'.
Joe Buccino said the strikes were intended to "prevent and protect US forces from acts similar to the August 15 attacks against US personnel by Iran-backed groups".

On August 15, several drones targeted a post of US-led anti-jihadi forces for no apparent reason, causing no casualties.
He told CNN that the airstrikes targeted 9 bunkers in the complex used for ammunition storage and logistics.
He said the U.S. military had originally planned to target 11 of the 13 bunkers in the complex, but the strikes on two were called off after groups of individuals were spotted near them, preliminary information indicated. As a result of the attacks, no one was killed.
CENTCOM's statement said US forces took 'proportionate, deliberate action aimed at limiting the risk of escalation and minimizing the risk of casualties'.

The statement added that 'the United States does not seek conflict, but will continue to take necessary measures to protect and defend its people'.
Hundreds of US troops have been deployed in northeastern Syria as part of a coalition focused on fighting the remnants of ISIS.
There was no immediate confirmation of the US strikes from Syrian state media.
Earlier, Iranian state media said a Revolutionary Guard general "who was on a military advisory mission in Syria" had been killed.

The reports did not say how the general was killed, describing him only as a 'shelter guard', a term Iran uses for those working in Syria or Iraq.
Iran says it has deployed its forces in Syria at the invitation of Damascus and only as advisers.
The IRGC is the ideological arm of the Iranian military and has been blacklisted by the US as a 'terrorist' group.
