The Ministry of Defense said that 'So-called societies of ex-servicemen formed in the name of Pakistan Armed Forces, which illegally claim affiliation with Pakistan Armed Forces or its units, have been recognised. Neither such activities are allowed.''
The statement said that there is a comprehensive policy for the functioning and governance of ex-servicemen's societies, any organization of individuals not complying with these rules will be considered guilty and such individuals and organizations will face disciplinary action. .
The statement was issued by the Ministry of Defense instead of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), which normally issues statements from the Joint Staff Headquarters, GHQ and other service headquarters.

Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society is headed by Lt Gen (retd) Amjad Shoaib while Veterans of Pakistan is headed by Lt Gen Retd Ali Quli Khan.

The VOP is the second major organization that supports political ambitions.
The announcement of disassociation from ex-servicemen organizations is the most severe action taken by the Ministry of Defense against these organizations so far.
