Saudi Arabia has said it has won the bid to host the 2029 Asian Winter Games in the Gulf Arab state's $500 billion flagship project, Neom.
According to a report published in the Dawn newspaper, the Trujena Resort project is expected to be completed in 2026, according to the project website.
Saudi Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal said in a statement on the social networking website Twitter that with the unlimited support of the Saudi leadership and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the sports sector, we are proud to announce this. It is happening that we have won the bid to host AWG Trogina 2029 as the first country in West Asia.
Neom is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Vision 2030. Under Vision 2030, development projects will reduce the kingdom's dependence on oil and modernize the economy, including developing sports.

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) issued a statement on the decision taken during its General Assembly meeting, saying that the deserts and mountains of Saudi Arabia will soon be the arena for the Winter Games.
The statement said that the bid by Saudi Arabia was unanimously accepted, while the mega city known as Neom will be the first West Asian city to host the event.
According to the project's website, the Asian Winter Games are being held in an area where winter temperatures fall below zero Celsius (32 Fahrenheit) and year-round temperatures are generally cooler than other regions in the region. It's 10 degrees cooler.
It should be noted that in October 2017, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the construction of a new city in the coastal area of the Red Sea at a cost of 500 billion dollars.

Proposed projects such as flying taxis and robot maids were met with consternation from various quarters, while architects and economists also questioned the project's feasibility.
The city will operate in an autonomous capacity independent of the existing government framework and the government will invest more than $500 billion in capital, while a sovereign wealth fund will also be established for local and international investors.
It is part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, and according to the Saudi Crown Prince, the plan is to build a bridge across the Red Sea that will connect the new city to Egypt, Jordan, and the rest of Africa. For the first time in the world, the first special zone of three countries will be established.
Neom is the largest project in Saudi Arabia's history where robots will outnumber humans while hologram teachers will teach genetically modified students.

The city of the future will make heavy use of cameras, drones and facial recognition technology to ensure the safety of citizens.
Robot employees will do all the housework here, cage fights between robots will also be held to entertain people while an amusement park full of robot dinosaurs will also be built.
Prince Fahd bin Sultan, the governor of the region, said in a meeting regarding the construction of the city, "I don't want a highway, we want flying cars by 2030." It will be for entertainment, not for transportation.
The details are unclear, but there is a proposal for an artificial moon for the city, which would likely be created with the help of a fleet of drones or live-stream images from space.
