Spike, the oldest living dog in the world
The Guinness World Records named Spike as the world's oldest new living dog. The record was recorded on December 7, 2022, the day Spike turned 23 years and 43 days.
The story of Spike
22.86 cm tall and weighing 5.85 kg, Spike is a Chihuahua who lives with Rita Kimball. His owner said she found him in the parking lot of a grocery store in Camden (Ohio, United States). At the time, Spike was already 10 years old and Rita has had it with him for 13. The woman could not really imagine, as she said, that Spike could even become a record-breaking dog. All these years, Spike has lived on Rita's farm, along with the other animals.
The days of Spike inside the farm where he lives
Today Spike is almost blind and has lost his hearing. That's probably why he doesn't really like to be caressed by people he doesn't know. With the people he knows, however, he is extremely sweet and affectionate. How do you still spend your days today? Walking around the farm and relaxing on the porch.
Favorite activities to Spike
What are your favorite things to do Spike? To reveal them is Rita, her human friend. Spike loves to sleep, play with the house cat Foxxy and hide her toy fox around the house.
Gino, the dog that held the previous record
Before Spike was voted the oldest living dog in the world, the record belonged to Gino, who at the time had recorded a record of 22 years and 93 days. Both Spike and Gino, despite having broken the record of the oldest living dogs in the world, have not yet managed to beat the record of Bluey, a dog that lived to the age of 29 years and 5 months (from 1910 to 1939).
