EURO 2020 Player of the Tournament: Gianluigi Donnarumma (Italy)

UEFA's team of Technical Observers at UEFA EURO 2020 have named Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma as their Player of the Tournament.

Donnarumma, 22 but with 33 caps to his name already, crowned his tournament in style on Sunday, helping the Azzurri to their second title with two penalty saves in the shoot-out triumph over England.

 

EURO 2020 Young Player of the Tournament: Pedri (Spain)

UEFA's team of Technical Observers at UEFA EURO 2020 have named Pedri as their Young Player of the Tournament.

Pedri, 18, had won just four senior caps prior to the tournament but missed only one minute of La Roja’s campaign, going off at the end of extra time in the quarter-final against Switzerland – which Spain went on to win on penalties.

 

EURO 2020 Goal of the Tournament: Patrik Schick (Czech Republic vs Scotland)

Patrik Schick's sensational long-range effort for the Czech Republic against Scotland on Matchday 1 of UEFA EURO 2020 has been named Goal of the Tournament.

Nearly 800,000 votes were cast in just over 24 hours after an initial selection of the ten best goals by UEFA's Technical Observer team.

 

UEFA Men's Player of the Year: Jorginho (Chelsea/Italy)

Chelsea and Italy midfielder Jorginho has been named 2021/21 UEFA Men's Player of the Year.

The 29-year-old, who last season became only the tenth player to win a European Cup and a EURO in the same year, beat off competition from Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and Chelsea team-mate N'Golo Kanté. The award was announced during the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage draw in Istanbul.

 

UEFA Women's Player of the Year: Alexia Putellas (Barcelona/Spain)

Barcelona and Spain midfielder Alexia Putellas has won the 2020/21 UEFA Women's Player of the Year award.

Putellas, who lifted the UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy in May as Barcelona captain, finished ahead of club-mates Jenni Hermoso, also a Spain player, and Lieke Martens, the 2016/17 winner, in the voting, conducted by a panel of leading coaches and journalists. The result was announced during the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League draw ceremony in Istanbul.

 

UEFA Men's Coach of the Year: Thomas Tuchel (Chelsea)

Chelsea's Thomas Tuchel has been named UEFA Men's Coach of the Year for 2020/21.

Tuchel beat off competition from Roberto Mancini and Josep Guardiola to become the second German winner after Hansi Flick claimed the inaugural award for 2019/20. The prize winner was announced during the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage draw in Istanbul.

 

UEFA Women's Coach of the Year: Lluís Cortés (Barcelona)

Lluís Cortés has been named UEFA Women's Coach of the Year for 2020/21.

Cortés, who led Barcelona to UEFA Women’s Champions League success and a Spanish domestic double, beat off competition from manager of final opponents Chelsea, Emma Hayes, and Peter Gerhardsson of Olympic silver-medallists Sweden to win the award. The decision was announced during the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage draw ceremony in Istanbul.

 

UEFA Champions League Men's Goalkeeper of the Season: Edouard Mendy (Chelsea/Senegal)

Chelsea's Edouard Mendy has been named Goalkeeper of the Season for the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League.

The French-born Senegal international, 29, beat off competition from Manchester City's Ederson and Real Madrid No1 Thibaut Courtois to cap a remarkable rise from unemployment just seven years ago. The award was presented to Mendy during the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage draw ceremony in Istanbul.

 

UEFA Champions League Men's Defender of the Season: Rúben Dias (Man. City/Portugal)

Manchester City's Rúben Dias has been named Defender of the Season for the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League.

The Portuguese centre-back, outstanding in his first season in England, beat off competition from Chelsea pair César Azpilicueta and Antonio Rüdiger. The award was presented to the 24-year-old during the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage draw ceremony in Istanbul.

 

UEFA Champions League Men's Midfielder of the Season: N'Golo Kanté (Chelsea/France)

Chelsea's N'Golo Kanté has been named Midfielder of the Season for the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League.

The French international, 30, beat off competition from Jorginho and Kevin De Bruyne after a remarkable campaign that concluded with Player of the Match performances in the semi-finals and final. The award was presented to Kanté during the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage draw ceremony in Istanbul.

 

UEFA Champions League Men's Forward of the Season: Erling Haaland (Dortmund/Norway)

Dortmundˈs Erling Haaland has been named Forward of the Season for the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League.

The 21-year-old, the competition top scorer last term, finished ahead of Bayern's Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappé of Paris in the vote to become Norway and BVBˈs first recipient of a UEFA award. The prize was presented to Haaland during the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage draw ceremony in Istanbul.


UEFA Women's Champions League Goalkeeper of the Season: Sandra Paños (Barcelona/Spain)

Barcelona’s Sandra Paños has been named 2020/21 UEFA Women's Champions League Goalkeeper of the Season at the UEFA Awards ceremony in Istanbul.

Paños was typically assured as Barcelona won the Women's Champions League for the first time last season, keeping a clean sheet against Chelsea’s all-star attack in the Gothenburg final as her side won 4-0. The 28-year-old Spain goalkeeper was third in the voting for the inaugural award last season but was top this time, leapfrogging Christian Endler, runner-up for the second consecutive year after her final Paris Saint-Germain campaign before joining Lyon. Chelsea’s Ann-Katrin Berger was third and last year’s winner, Sarah Bouhaddi, came fifth.

 

UEFA Women's Champions League Defender of the Season: Irene Paredes (Paris/Spain)

Irene Paredes has been named the 2020/21 UEFA Women's Champions League Defender of the Season at the UEFA Awards ceremony in Istanbul.

The Spain centre-back captained Paris Saint-Germain to the Women’s Champions League semi-finals, as well as the French title, ending Lyon’s five-year reign as European champions in the last eight before being pipped by Barcelona – the club that Paredes then joined this summer. 

 

UEFA Women's Champions League Midfielder of the Season: Alexia Putellas (Barcelona/Spain)

Alexia Putellas has been named the 2020/21 UEFA Women's Champions League Midfielder of the Season at the UEFA Awards ceremony in Istanbul.

The engine in Barça's midfield, whether on the left, as a playmaker or assigned to be a marauding forward, Putellas lifted the trophy as captain after the 4-0 final win against Chelsea in May. The 27-year-old scored a penalty to make it 2-0 and set up the third in Gothenburg despite having been an injury doubt. She was also named in the Squad of the Season for a second time in three years. 

 

UEFA Women's Champions League Forward of the Season: Jenni Hermoso (Barcelona/Spain)

Jenni Hermoso has been named the 2020/21 UEFA Women's Champions League Forward of the Season at the UEFA Awards ceremony in Istanbul.

Hermoso finished as joint-top scorer on six goals with Chelsea’s Fran Kirby as Barcelona won the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the first time. The 31-year-old, both Barça and Spain’s all-time leading scorer, struck in all four rounds of her club’s run to the Gothenburg final against Chelsea, including a round of 16 hat-trick against Fortuna Hjørring.

 

UEFA President’s Award: The medical team and Denmark captain Simon Kjær


 

The medical team and Denmark captain Simon Kjær, whose quick reactions and expertise saved the life of footballer Christian Eriksen at EURO 2020, formally accepted the 2021 UEFA President’s award in Istanbul on Thursday.

"I have deep respect for these gentlemen," said UEFA President Aleksander ÄŒeferin, as he handed over the award ahead of the UEFA 2021/22 Champions League group stage draw. "They showed us that human life is much more important than anything. They put things into perspective for all of us."

The award, which annually recognises outstanding personal achievements in European football, highlighted the importance of teamwork and training in reviving Eriksen, who suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s group stage match against Finland at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen on 12 June.
