Leading Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar's last rites have been performed with national honors.
His
last rites were performed at Mumbai's Shivaji Park and were attended by
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, actress Shah Rukh Khan, cricketer
Sachin Tendulkar and several other celebrities.
The famous singer was ill for some time and passed away on February 6 at the age of 92.
According to Indian broadcaster India Today, Lata Mangeshkar has been undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit for the past few weeks, where her health has deteriorated again after showing some signs of improvement.
Lata Mangeshkar contracted corona on January 8 last month and had pneumonia and has been in hospital ever since.
He was kept on the ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition for about 20 days, but after his health improved last week, he was removed from the ventilator and placed on oxygen.
The day before, his health had deteriorated and he was transferred to a ventilator.
Two days of mourning were declared across the country on the death of Lata Mangeshkar on Indian state television.

Even in the year 2019, Lata Mangeshkar was undergoing treatment in the hospital for a month due to respiratory problems. Even now, the doctors had already clarified that she could be kept in the hospital for several days due to her poor age.
Lata Mangeshkar is considered to be the most popular singer of all time in India. She has been equally popular in other South Asian countries besides Pakistan.

Born on September 28, 1929 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Lata Mangeshkar was the eldest of five siblings.
He started singing at the age of 13 after the death of his father in 1942 and sang about 30,000 songs in various languages spoken in India.
He is not married and his younger sister Asha Bhosle is also a famous singer.
Lata Mangeshkar has been awarded India's biggest civil awards Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhush besides Dada Sahib Phalke Award.
She started singing as a playback singer and her voice soon became very important for Bollywood blockbusters.

Due to his immense fame, he was invited by the government to sing a patriotic tribute to the soldiers killed in the 1962 Indo-China War at the Indian Republic Day celebrations in January 1963.
It is said that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had tears in his eyes when he heard Lata Mangeshkar's song 'O people of my homeland'.
