Conversation does not always need words, but when it does, language becomes the medium of communication. Not just the language we use to express ourselves, but the language that is the medium of expression, which is a combination of words and techniques, but also an integral part of any society and civilization.
Most of us can speak and understand many languages because in today's world it has become necessary to learn second and third language for education, job, business etc. This shift of need takes us from local to national and from national to international languages, and there is nothing wrong with that. Keeping track of time can save travel time. But in this race of running and moving forward, sometimes our mother tongue is left behind.
The language that is attributed and named after the mother should be loved, just like the mother !!
Rakim's ancestors had migrated from the vicinity of Jammu in the turmoil of 1947 and reached this kingdom in Khudadad. The local language, Gujarati, was the mother tongue of our ancestors. But these immigrants who settled in Sialkot and Narowal areas did not hesitate to adopt Punjabi.
It is conceivable that the choice of language may not have been one of their priorities in the trials and tribulations they were going through in those miserable days. Thus Punjabi became our parents and our mother tongue. We were young when a strange turn came in this story of languages from which our attachment to another local language began.

In 1982, we moved from our hometown to Kotli, Azad Kashmir with my father to his place of employment. These were the days of our early life and there was still some time to go to school. We lived in a rented house. There, a neighbor woman, Aunt Seema, fell in love with our mother, which turned into a deep friendship.
Surprisingly, Aunt Seema could only speak the local hill language and our mother could only speak Punjabi. The smell of the two was also very different from each other. One was from a rural and agricultural background in the plains and the other was from a semi-urban environment in a remote mountainous area.
Perhaps their souls have known each other since time immemorial, so in this world they had to have love and affection for each other. The effect of this friendship was that our hearing became accustomed to the mountain language from a very young age.
Rented houses kept changing but the habit of meeting each other did not change. Aunt Seema and our mother became talkative sisters. Everyone there spoke the mountain language, but the house in our hearts did it probably because of the adoption of this one family.
We are now based in Islamabad and more than two decades have passed since Kotli left Azad Kashmir but in the Pothohari language spoken in Rawalpindi and its environs we still get a taste of the mountain language of Kotli. It's not our mother tongue, but our mother loved the speakers of that language, so we love that language too.

Our daughter was just two and a half years old, she disappeared from sight while playing at home, so we asked her, what are you doing? Got the answer: ‘Daddy! I am 'returning' to the earth. Hearing this, the Punjabi Baba was devastated.
In the same way, our benefactors were once found complaining to their mother that there were firecrackers outside at night but Baba did not let them go.
It is difficult for husbands to enjoy the conversation of wives, but if it uses 'Applied Urdu', then listening to it definitely gives a sense of something new. For example, it is common for us to call stairs stairs, thin ones hariri, naughty ones naughty. In the same way, we have seen gems like 'Hareel Gadha', 'Nach Ki Nachna' and 'Sandori Mango' etc. being fluently involved in everyday conversation.
