ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Uzbekistan have signed eight memorandums of understanding (MoUs,) on railways, security, preferential trade agreements and climate change.
Prime Minister Imran Khan and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirzayev were also present at the signing ceremony on Thursday.
According to a joint statement issued by Pakistan-Uzbekistan MoU, the Minister of Pakistan signed a memorandum of understanding between the National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan and Pakistan Television Corporation for cooperation in the field of television and radio broadcasting. Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussein and Uzbek Culture Minister Ozodbek Nizabikov signed.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony of Pakistan for the promotion of religious pilgrimage tourism. Pakistan was signed by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Nurul Haq Qadri and Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov.
In addition, on the occasion of Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries on cooperation in the field of environment and climate change, Pakistan's Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam and Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan and Minister for Investment and Foreign Trade Sardar Omar Zakov signed.
The preferential trade agreement between the two countries was signed by Trade Adviser Abdul Razzaq Daud on behalf of Pakistan and Sardar Omar Zakov on behalf of Uzbekistan.
A roadmap was also signed between the two countries to further enhance cooperation in the field of security. Pakistan was represented by Dr. Moeed Youssef, National Security Adviser, and Viktor Mahmudov, Secretary of the Security Council of Uzbekistan.
The two countries also signed a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan. Secretary and Chairman Pakistan Railways Habib-ur-Rehman Gilani on behalf of Pakistan and Minister of Transport Alkhom Makhkamov on behalf of Uzbekistan.
A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Tashkent City and Islamabad City administrations. MCI Administrator Hamza Shafqat from Pakistan and Uzbek Ambassador to Pakistan Obik Usmanov signed the agreement.
In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two countries on cooperation between the Sarkhandriya region of Uzbekistan and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. On behalf of Pakistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Industry Secretary Zulfiqar Ali Shah and on behalf of Uzbekistan, Uzbek Ambassador to Pakistan Obik Usmanov signed.
