After the Pakistan team suffered a follow-on defeat in the first innings of the Karachi Test, Australia took an overall lead of 489 runs and strengthened its grip in the second Test of the series.

At the end of the third day play of the second match of the ongoing three-match Test series between Pakistan and Australia, Australia scored 81 runs for the loss of one wicket.

Australian opener Usman Khawaja (35) and Marinus Labushin (37) are at the crease.

The only Australian to be dismissed in the second innings was David Warner, who was caught by Fawad Alam off Hassan Ali.

On the third day of the game, Australia declared to declare the innings after scoring 556 runs for the loss of 9 wickets, after which Pakistan started their innings and both its openers returned to the pavilion early.

Pakistani opener and Rawalpindi Test scorer Abdullah Shafiq was dismissed for 13 in the second innings.

Imam-ul-Haq, who scored centuries in both innings of the Rawalpindi Test, was also dismissed for 20 by spinner Nathan Lyon.

After the two openers were out, when captain Babar Azam and Azhar Ali took the reins to strengthen the batting line-up, Pakistan needed 319 more runs to avoid a follow-on.

But even veteran batsman Azhar Ali, who scored a magnificent century in the first Test, could not stay on the wicket for long and fell victim to Mitchell Starc by scoring only 14 runs.

After Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam came to bat but on the first ball he was hit by a dangerous yorker delivery by Mitchell Starc.

The player who got out after Fawad Alam was wicket keeper Better Mohammad Rizwan, he scored 6 runs, he was hit by Pat Cummins.

After Mohammad Rizwan, Faheem Ashraf scored 4 while Sajid Khan scored 5 runs.

By the time of the tea break on the third day, Pakistan had scored 100 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and captain Babar Azam was not out with 29 runs while Hassan Ali was with him on the crease.

After the tea break, Hassan Ali was run out without scoring a run.

For Pakistan, captain Babar Azam was the top scorer with 36 runs.


Earlier, Australia had scored 505 runs for the loss of 8 wickets till the end of the game yesterday. Thanks to Kunms' 34 not out, Australia made a quick 51 runs and put up a mountain-like scoreboard of 556 runs.

For Pakistan, all-rounder Faheem Ashraf bowled 55 for 2 in 21 overs while off-spinner Sajid Khan bowled 2 for 167 in 57 overs.

The first two days of the second Test against Pakistan were played by Australia. Usman Khawaja's magnificent 160-run innings helped the visitors to 505 for eight by the end of the second day's play.

In the second Test match of the series being played at the National Stadium in Karachi, Australia captain Pat Cummins decided to bat after winning the toss.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam had said that this is the traditional wicket of Karachi which will help the spinners later. Two changes were made in the Pakistan team for the match and Faheem Ashraf and Hassan Ali were made part of the final XI in place of Iftikhar Ahmed and Naseem Shah.

It should be noted that the first Test match of the series played between the two teams in Rawalpindi was drawn.

Australia is visiting Pakistan for the first time since 1998, after refusing to do so due to security concerns.
