On the last day of the second Test match of the series played at the National Stadium Karachi, Pakistan resumed their second incomplete innings with 192 for two.
Earlier in the day, the first challenge for Abdullah Shafiq and Babar Azam was to face the Australian fast bowlers on a new ball used in just two overs.
Both players defended early in the day and prevented the Australian bowlers from taking wickets, but both batsmen looked relatively confident after the spinners' attack.
Both players played responsibly and kept the Australian team away from taking wickets for almost the entire session, but just a few overs before the lunch break, Abdullah Shafiq fell victim to the nervous nineties.
The young batsman not only played a brilliant innings of 96 runs but also forged a 228-run partnership with Babar to brighten Pakistan hopes of drawing the match.
With a total score of 249, Abdullah Shafiq 96-run innings with six fours and a six came to an end at the hands of rival captain Pat Cummins.
After the lunch break, Fawad Alam struggle also came to an end.
After that Babar was accompanied by his deputy Mohammad Rizwan and both of them continued to score while batting well.
Babar Azam batted well and crossed the 150-run mark. However, the captain of the national team proved to be very lucky with an individual score of 161 and the Australian fielders could not catch him on two consecutive balls by Mitchell Swapson.
When there was a tea break on the last day of the match, Pakistan had scored 310 runs for the loss of four wickets, Babar Azam was playing at 168 and Rizwan at 14.
After the tea break, Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam took a slightly more aggressive approach and scored a few boundaries to advance the team's score.
Babar Azam made many records while batting brilliantly but he could not complete the first double century of his Test career by just 4 runs and after playing the best innings of 196 runs, he got out on the ball of Lyon.
The captain was dismissed for 392 runs, after which Faheem Ashraf also returned to the pavilion in the next ball at zero.
Mohammad Rizwan continued to bat responsibly but new batsman Sajid Khan added 9 runs from the other end and the match once again entered a very interesting phase.
However, Mohammad Rizwan along with Noman Ali kept the team safe from further losses and also completed his century.
Pakistan scored 438 for 7 at the end of the last day and tied the match.
Muhammad Rizwan remained unbeaten on 104 runs.
Nathan Lyon top-scored for Australia with 4 wickets, with captain Pat Cummins taking 2 wickets.
Babar Azam was declared the best player of the match for his superb batting.
It should be noted that Australia, while batting first, declared the first innings at 556 for 9.
In response, the Pakistani batting line was completely flopped and the entire team was piled on 148 runs in the first innings.
