However, the government's courage was shattered when the coalition party PML-Q announced its support to the government in the no-confidence motion, in return for which Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was promised to be the Chief Minister of Punjab in place of Usman Bazdar. The task of supporting the angry members was given.

Following this development, a no-confidence motion was filed against the Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar by the opposition in Punjab on March 28. However, the Chief Minister tendered his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan on the same day. Server approved.

Allies part ways

In case of deviating from the party policy, pressure was exerted on the disenfranchised members for lifelong disqualification and for this purpose a reference was filed in the Supreme Court for interpretation of Article 63A of the Constitution.

However, the second major setback came when the opposition managed to persuade the Ittehad Center and the PTI's ally in Balochistan, the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), and four of its five assembly members voted against the no-confidence motion. Promised to vote against the Prime Minister.

At the same time, the government efforts to persuade another ally, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan, intensified and delegations from the ruling party met with the allies several times.

However, here too the efforts of the government were in vain and MQM Pakistan also joined the opposition camp after which the PTI was clearly transformed from a majority in the House to a minority.

PM's 'surprise'

However, a move by the Prime Minister on March 27 gave a completely different color to the no-confidence motion when he addressed a rally titled 'Amr Bal Ma'roof' and waved a piece of paper claiming that it would bring down his government. Is a written threat.

There were various speculations after the letter came to light, so the government agreed to present the letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Separately, it came to light that the letter was actually a diplomatic cable sent by the then Pakistani Ambassador to the United States, Asad Majeed, on the basis of a meeting with Donald Low, the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs.

A senior Pakistani official told Dawn that the language used by the United States in the meeting was unusually harsh.

Interestingly, there were no signs of a breakdown or new tension in US-Pakistan relations until Imran Khan came out with a threatening message.

A meeting of the National Security Committee chaired by the Prime Minister was held on the said situation in which important Federal Ministers, National Security Advisor, Chiefs of Armed Forces participated.

Later, the Foreign Office issued an official letter through diplomatic channels in accordance with the decision taken at the meeting of the National Security Committee and no country was named in the statement issued in this regard.

However, in his address to the nation, the Prime Minister mentioned the United States as the country behind the letter, but then said that it was another country and not the United States.
