Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari while addressing the House after the completion of voting process said that today democracy has succeeded.


He said that the positive role of the members was there and seeing you, I also remained steadfast.


The Deputy Speaker said that the votes have been counted according to which Chaudhry Pervez Elahi did not get any votes while Muhammad Hamza Shahbaz got 197 votes.


The Deputy Speaker later issued a notification for the election of Hamza Shahbaz as the Chief Minister of Punjab.

"My journey started in 1993, when I was first sent to jail. I was a student of Government College at that time. I spent six months in jail. After the death of his grandfather, he was the only member of the family who brought him down to Lahad.

Earlier in the day, there was a commotion in the session of the Provincial Assembly for the election of the Chief Minister of Punjab and the session had to be adjourned, after which the session of the Provincial Assembly resumed after a delay of five and a half hours.

Deputy Speaker Dost Mohammad Mazari returned to the House, who used a loudspeaker to address the members and closed the doors of the Punjab Assembly to elect a new Chief Minister.

Noise and drunkenness by the members of the House continued in the House, due to which the Speaker had difficulty in addressing the House.

Meanwhile, the voting process for the election of the Chief Minister began in the Punjab Assembly, while members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Muslim League (Q) walked out of the meeting.

Assembly members torture Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi

Meanwhile, during the commotion in the Punjab Assembly, Chief Ministerial candidate Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi also fell victim to the commotion and was injured in the violence.

Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was taken out of the house during the commotion.

The meeting of the Provincial Assembly was marred by commotion

Earlier, a meeting of the Provincial Assembly for the election of Punjab Chief Minister was held at 11:30 am this morning.

The election of the Chief Minister was scheduled in Punjab, the largest province of the country. The post had been vacant since April 1 after the resignation of Usman Bazdar was accepted.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its ally PML-Q candidate for the Punjab Assembly was Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, while the PML-N leader and opposition leader Hamza Shahbaz defected from the ruling party. Members and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and independents took to the field with support.

The meeting for the election of Chief Minister was delayed due to commotion which was scheduled to start at 11:30 am. The meeting was presided over by Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari.

Before the formal commencement of the meeting, the PTI members rushed to the House and started chanting slogans against the deviant members.

When Dost Mohammad Mazari arrived in the House to preside over the meeting, the members of the government assembly surrounded the seat of the Deputy Speaker. He was taken out of the house.

Meanwhile, a scuffle broke out between the government and opposition members. A heavy contingent of Punjab Police along with SSP operations reached the Punjab Assembly to control the situation.

Meanwhile, Pervez Elahi, who was present in the assembly, accused the PML-N of bringing the police into the house and said that it was the first time in the history of Punjab that the police had come into the house.

The PML-Q leader said that we will ensure that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) appears before us and he will be sentenced to one month.

After a great commotion, the Deputy Speaker left the Assembly.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Punjab Assembly said that the meeting will not be adjourned till the voting.

Later, anti-rights force personnel in bulletproof jackets entered the house through the old gate of the Punjab Assembly and will identify and arrest the members of the assembly who attacked the Deputy Speaker.

Explaining the reasons for the commotion in the House today, he said that from the time Pakistan was formed till today, the police could not enter the House. After the commotion in the House, PML-N leader Ata Tarar while talking to the media outside the assembly said that today the constitution and law has been trampled underfoot. The election was delayed against the constitution and against the law.

He said that the manner in which the Deputy Speaker was attacked today was an incident of terrorism.

Political leaders condemn attack on Deputy Speaker

The attack on Deputy Speaker Dost Mohammad Mazari and the commotion inside the Provincial Assembly were sharply criticized by the government and PML-N leaders.

PML-N President and newly elected Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that the attack on the Deputy Speaker by PTI and PML-Q members in the Punjab Assembly should be condemned in the strongest terms.

Demonstrations of vandalism, bullying and violence are reprehensible, Ahsan Iqbal

Commenting on the situation in the Punjab Assembly, PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal said that Imran Niazi was bent on spreading chaos at all levels.

In his tweet, he said that the display of vandalism, bullying and violence by PTI and PML-Q members in the Punjab Assembly to prevent the election of the Chief Minister was reprehensible.

He said that Imran was proving that he was a follower of Hitler but he would be stopped.


If there is any commotion, the Deputy Speaker will be responsible, Pervez Elahi

Earlier, in an informal conversation with the media outside the Punjab Assembly, Punjab Chief Ministerial candidate Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had said that if the results were based on injustice, he would not be recognized.

Expressing ignorance in response to a question regarding taking money from the Deputy Speaker, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that he had no knowledge about it.

Talking to media after reaching the assembly, Chief Ministerial candidate Hamza Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab is not Pakistan but it is a big province of Pakistan.

He said that he will work for the creation of unity and harmony and for Pakistan to move forward. InshaAllah, going beyond personal interest, we will speak for Pakistan and take everyone along.

He said that the challenges are certainly many but praise be to Allah we will serve with good intentions, hopefully Allah will bless us.

He said that the first priority in Punjab is also the people, the second and third priority is also the people, they will bring good governance.


I don't want to take pressure but to give pressure, friend Mazari

Talking to media before the meeting, Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Dost Mazari said that he had appeared before the court yesterday before a two-member bench which ruled that he had to hold free and fair elections.

"I try my best to give the media access to coverage with free and fair elections, and if anyone thinks that he has come to the assembly to spoil the atmosphere, then I will not take pressure," he said. It is to give pressure.

Numbers game

The candidate in the 371-member House needs at least 186 votes to be elected Chief Minister.

In the 371-member Punjab Assembly, 183 are from PTI, 10 from PML-Q, 165 from PML-N, 7 from PPP, 5 are independents and one is from Rah-e-Haq Party.

It may be recalled that on March 28, a no-confidence motion was filed against Usman Bazdar by Punjab Opposition Secretary PML-N and PPP in Punjab Assembly Secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti.

On the same day, after a no-confidence motion against former Prime Minister Imran Khan at the Center, the government accepted his demand for the support of his ally PML-Q and demanded the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar.

Therefore, on March 28, Usman Bazdar had submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister Imran Khan, which was confirmed by the PTI ministers as well as on behalf of the PTI to PML-Q Chaudhry Pervez Elahi. Chief Ministerial candidate was nominated.

In such a situation when a simple majority was claimed by both the opposition and the government, the Tareen group had announced its support for the PML-N candidate Hamza Shahbaz.

Later on April 1, the Governor of Punjab accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Usman Bazdar and convened a meeting of the Punjab Assembly on Saturday, April 2, the agenda of which included the election of the Leader of the House.

However, the meeting on April 2 was postponed without the election of the Chief Minister due to the commotion of the opposition and government members.

After this, the meeting of the Punjab Assembly to be held on April 3 for the election of the Chief Minister was also postponed without voting.

Later on April 5, the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly adjourned the Assembly till April 16 without conducting the election of the Chief Minister.

However, in a significant development that took place last night, he rejected the previous order and issued an order to convene a meeting of the Provincial Assembly at 7.30 am the next day, which was denied by the Punjab Assembly spokesperson and PML-Q. Was gone

On April 7, the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) filed a no-confidence motion in the Punjab Assembly against its own Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari, after which Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari convened a meeting of the Assembly. Were not authorized.

Later, the opposition parties also managed to file a no-confidence motion against Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, which further reduced the scope for the provincial government to play its cards.

Later on April 9, PML-N leader Hamza Shahbaz had filed a petition in the Lahore High Court seeking election of Punjab Chief Minister in which Speaker Pervez Elahi, Deputy Speaker and others were made parties. It was decided that the post of Chief Minister of Punjab has been vacant since April 1 and the province of Punjab has been functioning without a Chief Executive since April 1.

Delivering judgment on the petition of Hamza Shahbaz, Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Amir Bhatti had ordered that Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari should complete the voting process for the election of new Leader of the House on April 16.

However, the PML-Q and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had filed petitions against the Lahore High Court's decision.

A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court on Monday upheld the decision of Chief Justice Lahore High Court Justice Amir Bhatti while dismissing the appeals filed by the PML-Q against the presiding over the meeting of Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Dost Mazari.

The verdict said that after looking at all the facts, the court did not have the slightest hesitation that Dost Mazari would preside over the session.
