Russian President Vladimir Putin and China congratulated PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif on his election as Prime Minister and vowed to further improve bilateral relations.

The Russian embassy in Pakistan said in a statement on the social networking site Twitter that "President Putin has congratulated Shahbaz Sharif on his election as Prime Minister of Pakistan."

The statement said Putin "expressed hope that Shahbaz Sharif activities would further enhance the cooperation between Russia and Pakistan and the partnership for the betterment of Afghanistan and the fight against international terrorism."

According to the report of the official news agency APP, China also congratulated Shahbaz Sharif on his election as the Prime Minister and said that they would bring closer the Pak-China public relations with traditional friendship, mutual cooperation and common future in the new era. 

Therefore, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (C-PAC) is committed to advancing high-level construction.

"We congratulate Shahbaz Sharif on his election as Prime Minister of Pakistan," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Xiao Lijian said in response to a question.

He said that China and Pakistan are everlasting friends, strong and supportive partners with strong ties.

He said that China is committed to building its traditional friendly relations with Pakistan, cooperation with each other, wide-ranging cooperation in various fields and C-Pac.

It may be recalled that PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif was elected the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan yesterday and took oath of office.

After which Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Shahbaz Sharif on his election as Prime Minister.

The United States, on the other hand, has said it values ​​its "long-standing" cooperation with Pakistan but would not like to comment on a change of government in Islamabad.

A State Department spokesman told Dawn that "we are watching closely the developments in Pakistan."

The spokesman said that the United States values ​​the long-standing cooperation with Pakistan and has always considered a prosperous and democratic Pakistan important for American interests and this position has been maintained.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while congratulating Shahbaz Sharif on becoming Prime Minister, said that India wants peace and stability in the region so that we can focus on development challenges and the welfare of the people.

In response, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that Pakistan wanted peaceful and cooperative relations with India.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in his message said that peaceful resolution of long standing disputes including Jammu and Kashmir is inevitable.

"Pakistan sacrifices in the war on terror are not hidden from anyone. We must focus on the socio-economic development of our people while ensuring peace," he said.
