Other PML-N leaders, including Maryam Nawaz, also attended the swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Minister. Strict security measures were taken at the Governor House in this regard.
The ceremony started with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by Naat Rasool Maqbool.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Punjab Governor Omar Cheema had demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the 'bullying' in the Governor House. Drama is being created.
It may be recalled that yesterday the Lahore High Court had directed the Speaker National Assembly to take oath as Chief Minister from Hamza Shahbaz.
On the other hand, a statement has been issued by the Chief Secretary Punjab to take charge of the post of Hamza Shahbaz.
In the notification, the Chief Secretary said that Sardar Usman Bazdar is no longer the Chief Minister of Punjab, Usman Bazdar was immediately barred from using the office of the Chief Minister.
In addition, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif took charge of his office as the Chief Minister of Punjab.
After the swearing in ceremony, Hamza Shahbaz reached his office at Club where he was presented guard of honor by the Punjab Police contingent.
Hamza Shahbaz was elected Chief Minister on April 16 with 197 votes, but Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema refused to take the oath of office, saying that Chief Minister Usman Bazdar had resigned as Prime Minister, after which his resignation could not be accepted. And it was unconstitutional.

Omar Sarfraz Cheema had said in a press conference that "I have written a letter to the Advocate General of Punjab and the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly seeking his statement on the report of the Secretary, following the directions of the Lahore High Court and other facts. Hamza Shahbaz had approached the Lahore High Court to take oath, however, despite two court decisions, Hamza Shahbaz was not sworn in.
On April 21, the Lahore High Court had directed Arif Alvi to appoint a representative and a place for the swearing in of Hamza Shahbaz if the Governor of Punjab was not present.

Hamza Shahbaz had once again sought intervention of the Lahore High Court on the failure of the Governor Punjab and the President to implement the court orders.
In the third petition, he said that the High Court should intervene in the matter for the fundamental rights of the citizens of the province and Hamza Shahbaz and order them to take oath to run the province in a constitutional manner.
In addition, the court had yesterday directed the Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf to take oath from the newly elected Chief Minister of Punjab Hamza Shahbaz on Saturday at 11:30 am.

Speaker Punjab Assembly and PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that Hamza will challenge the decision of Lahore High Court regarding the oath of Shahbaz Sharif.
It may be recalled that after the non-movement against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the government had also demanded the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar.
Following the resignation of Usman Bazdar, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was nominated by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as the Chief Ministerial candidate while Hamza Shahbaz was nominated by the PML-N as the Chief Ministerial candidate.
In this regard, some sessions of the Punjab Assembly were adjourned due to commotion. However, on a court order, Hamza Shahbaz was elected Chief Minister on April 16 in a meeting chaired by Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari.
Earlier, a scuffle broke out between the two parties at the beginning of the meeting while Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari was also tortured.

Usman Bazdar resignation rejected

On the situation arising after the resignation of Usman Bazdar on March 28, Omar Cheema pointed out that the communication which was called resignation was a printed letter addressed to the Prime Minister.
He said that under Article 130 (8) of the Constitution, communication cannot be considered as a letter of resignation because according to the said provision, in order for the letter of resignation to be valid, it has to be handwritten and addressed to the Governor.
Former Punjab Education Minister Murad Rass had earlier confirmed the development in a tweet, saying that Omar Cheema had restored Usman Bazdar's cabinet and a meeting of the provincial cabinet had been convened later.
Usman Bazdar resigns
It may be recalled that Usman Bazdar had the most important meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan on March 28 in Islamabad in which he tendered his resignation to the Prime Minister.
Minister of State Farrukh Habib had said that "Chief Minister Usman Bazdar has tendered his resignation to the Prime Minister and Imran Khan has decided to nominate Chaudhry Pervez Elahi as the Chief Minister of Punjab".
Later, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Speaker Punjab Assembly and senior PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi met and in the same meeting, the Prime Minister announced the nomination of Pervez Elahi as the new Chief Minister of Punjab.
Opposition parties had also filed a no-confidence motion in the Punjab Assembly against Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar after Prime Minister Imran Khan.
With the no-confidence motion, the recusal of the assembly session was submitted to Secretary Punjab Assembly Muhammad Khan Bhatti with the signatures of PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) members.
It should be noted that Usman Bazdar was sworn in as the Chief Minister on August 20, 2018.
