The North Korean government, which is considered a hardliner, has for the first time acknowledged that it has reported cases of Corona, but officials have not released figures.

According to Reuters, North Korea state-run news agency KNCA, citing officials, confirmed on May 12 that Omekron cases had been reported for the first time in the country.

Authorities say samples of suspected patients from the capital, Pyongyang, were taken on May 8 and tested for "Omicron".

Strict precautionary measures, including enforcing lockdowns, were announced not only in Pyongyang but also in other cities after the first corona cases were reported in the country.

Interestingly, for the first time in recent days, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was seen in a face mask.

The North Korean government has claimed for the past two years that it has not had a report on Corona, but countries around the world, including the United States, have expressed concern over North Korea claims.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also expressed concern about the lack of reports of corona cases in North Korea and the lack of access to vaccines.

Many organizations, including the World Health Organization, believed that Corona had arrived in North Korea a long time ago, but the epidemic was not recognized due to the lack of a test system there.

When Corona was launched worldwide in December 2019, North Korea closed its land borders in January 2020 and banned goods or imports from abroad.

The closure of land borders has led to a shortage of groceries in North Korea, as well as other essentials, including medicine.

South Korea and other countries, including the World Health Organization, have offered North Korea vaccines and test kits during the Corona epidemic, but the government has refused to accept any such offer.

Corona was initially rumored to have had North Korea reported that Corona patients had been shot dead after a few cases of Corona had arrived there, but such rumors were untrue.

Experts believe that Corona was present in North Korea even before the recent Omicron cases and that thousands of people will still be forced to live with the disease in countries with a population of 25 million.
