It didn't take long for Nadal to take the lead over his 23-year-old inexperienced opponent and he easily won the street set to become the champion.

Nadal had already proved his best form by beating arch-rivals Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev in previous rounds, and his victory in the final had already been predicted.

Nadal, 36, became the oldest player to win the French Open by defeating his rival Caspar Road in an easy and one-sided final.

Nadal, the 22nd Grand Slam winner of his career, has lost just three matches in French Open history so far and has won a total of 112 matches on this court.

The victory is also memorable for the Spanish tennis star in the sense that he achieved it on a day 17 years ago when he won the first Grand Slam of his career and the French Open title on the same day.
