Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has termed the pace of development work in Gwadar as unsatisfactory and said that even after many years we have not been able to complete Gwadar Airport and drinking water is not available to the people of Gwadar.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of East Bay Express in Gwadar, the Prime Minister said that he visited the construction work in Gwadar by air and reviewed other development works including Gwadar Airport to be constructed with the grant of Chinese government.
He said that the East Bay Expressway, a high quality motorway built by China, has been inaugurated today and the road to Karachi will be connected.
He said that we have reviewed the ongoing development works in collaboration with the Chief Minister of China and the Chief Minister of Balochistan and the pace of work here is not satisfactory. The foundation was laid, it is still in the process of construction, although it has been given to us as a gift by the President and Prime Minister of China, but we have not been able to complete it.
Shahbaz Sharif said that similarly drinking water could not be provided to the people of Gwadar and today I have been told that in the third phase very old water pipes have to be replaced so we have to install desalination plant as an alternative. If this work had been done earlier, drinking water would have been available to the people of Gwadar today. Similarly, other issues are also slowing down.
He said that I have directed Ahsan Iqbal to meet all the concerned officers and ministers and fix the time of completion of each project immediately.
He said that it would be a good thing if we could bring electricity from Iran to Gwadar. The project has been delayed for many years now. And the business and financial model should be developed so that instead of paying the electricity bill, we bring money to a family through banks and after a transparent bidding process, the companies provide them with reasonable size solar panels.
