Despite the announcement of US President Joe Biden's visit to Saudi Arabia, community leaders named the road leading to the Saudi embassy in Washington after Saudi journalist Jamal Khashkiji and vowed never to forget his assassination.
According to a report by the foreign news agency 'AFP', the local administration of the US capital changed the name of a road leading to the Saudi embassy to 'Jamal Khashkji' who was killed in 2018 at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Attributed by name.
Columbia Council District President Phil Mendelssohn said a unanimous vote was taken to rename this part of New Hampshire Avenue, along with a multi-story building called Watergate.

He did not say that this street would "always remind me of Jamal Khashoggi who can never be forgotten".
The sentiment came as the White House announced a day earlier, announcing President Joe Biden's visit to Saudi Arabia next month that Joe Biden would meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
According to US intelligence, Muhammad bin Salman had ordered the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Earlier in the day, Biden vowed to impose sanctions on Saudi Arabia over human rights issues, including the assassination of Jamal Khashkji.
"This visit means that Biden is breaking his promise to support human rights around the world," said Tawakkul Kerman, a Nobel Prize-winning Yemeni social activist and author.

Sarah Lee, executive director of the left-wing group Democracy for the Arab World (Democracy for the Arab World), formed by Jamal Khashkji, condemned Biden's visit, saying it was a "shameful confession."
"We want to remind the people hiding behind the doors every day, every hour and every moment that this is the way of Jamal Khashoggi," he said.
"We want an account of the murder of our brave friend who dared to challenge the tyranny of Muhammad bin Salman," he said.
The Biden administration says it is taking a tougher line with former President Donald Trump but still sees significant interests with the Saudis. It is a big oil producing country.

Washington's 'Jamal Khashkji Way' is a recent street that has been renamed as a symbol.
Russia's embassy is located in Boris Nemtsov Plaza, named after a reformist politician killed in 2015 near the Kremlin.
An attempt was made to name the plaza outside the Chinese embassy after Nobel Prize-winning author and pro-democracy activist Liu Xiaobo, who died in prison, but failed due to strong opposition from Beijing.
Other governments have sometimes done the same to the United States, whose consulate in Kolkata is located on a street named after the Vietnamese revolutionary Ho Chi Minh.
Jamal Khashoggi, an American resident who wrote for the Washington Post, was assassinated on October 2, 2018 at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul while he was on his way to submit documents required for the marriage of his Turkish fianc ہیe Hatice Sengiz.
Turkish officials allege that Jamal Khashkji, who wrote a critical article about the Saudi Crown Prince, was assassinated inside the Saudi consulate by a team of Saudi agents sent to Istanbul and then dismembered. The remains have not been found yet.
The team consisted of forensic doctors, intelligence and security officials working for the Saudi Crown Prince's office.
