Adding to the woes of consumers who are worried about inflation and heavy electricity bills, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved to increase the cost of electricity by Rs 3.39 paise per unit.
Nepra has approved to increase the price of electricity by Rs 3.39 paisa per unit for the quarterly adjustment of April-June 2022 for electricity consumers across the country, except for K-Electric.
Nepra said that additional collections from electricity consumers under the April-June Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (QTA) will begin from October and will be made for 3 months.

Electricity distribution companies had filed a petition with Nepra for additional charges from consumers, which was heard today.
According to Nepra, the period of various quarterly adjustments of Rs 3 20 paise increase will end on September 30 and an increase of Rs 3 39 paise will be applied from October 1, thus an additional burden of 19 paise per unit will be imposed on electricity consumers.
Additional electricity charges will be charged to all consumers in September bills after the notification is issued, the increase will not be applicable to consumers who consume less than 50 units per month.
It may be noted that earlier, Nepra had also approved to increase the price of electricity by Rs 4 34 paise per unit for one month also on August 31.

This approval was given in the context of the July monthly fuel adjustment.
It should be noted that the electricity distribution companies (Discos) paid Rs 4.69 paise per unit to get an additional Rs 64 billion in fuel cost adjustment (FCA) due to the high cost of electricity consumed in July. An application for extension was filed on August 21.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), a subsidiary of the power division, had in July demanded FCA of Rs 4.69 paise per month from DISCOs for electricity sold to consumers.
The CPPA had claimed that in July, consumers were charged Rs 6.29 paise per unit of fuel while the actual fuel cost was Rs 10.98 paise per unit, so about Rs 4.69 paise per unit should be charged extra. .
Earlier also on July 28 (Nepra) had approved to increase the price of electricity by 9 rupees 89 paise per unit for the monthly fuel adjustment of June for consumers in different parts of the country.
Nepra had approved to increase the price of electricity by 7 rupees 90 paise per unit as part of the monthly fuel adjustment for May.
