The water level continues to rise in Sindh's Dadu district, while the total number of people killed in the devastating floods that displaced millions of people across the country has exceeded 1200.



The reason for the increase in water level in Dadu is the increase in the flow of water in the Indus River while the terrible floods have wreaked havoc in the northern parts of the country.

At least 1,208 people, including 416 children, have died in the country, while 6,822 have been injured due to floods caused by the extraordinary, worst monsoon rains and melting glaciers.

According to the latest data released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 19 more people lost their lives in the last 24 hours.

Sindh Irrigation Department Superintendent Engineer Alam Rahpoto told Dawn.com that the devastation is now heading towards southern areas as the floodwaters are moving towards Manchhar Lake and Juhi in Dadu district on Friday.

He said that on Friday morning, 10,000 to 15,000 cusecs of water is being released from Manchhar Lake into the Indus River, while 70,000 to 80,000 cusecs of water is coming into the lake from the protective embankment FP Dam from Main Nara Valley Drain and Selb.

The official said that the water level in the lake has been rising rapidly but all safety dams are strong.

The official added that there is a high level of flood in the Indus River in Dadu district, there is a high level of flood in the Indus River at Dadu Moru Bridge.

Arrival of Turkish delegation in Islamabad

The Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for expressing his sympathy and condolence over the loss of life and property caused by the floods and expressed his gratitude to Turkey for its cooperation with Pakistan in dealing with this disaster and providing all possible support. Appreciate the determination.

The Prime Minister welcomed the fact that immediately after President Erdogan's phone call, Turkey sent aid to Pakistan in the form of tents, food items, medicines and emergency relief supplies for the flood victims.

So far 11 Turkish military planes and 2 cargo trains have been sent to Pakistan.

Referring to Turkey's assistance to Pakistan during the 2005 earthquake and 2010 floods, the Prime Minister emphasized that Turkey and Pakistan are one soul and have always supported each other in difficult times.

Informing the delegation about the devastation caused by the floods, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan is facing the threat of food insecurity in the country as crops have been destroyed on lakhs of acres due to floods.

The prime minister expressed hope for Turkey's full cooperation in the flood-affected infrastructure reconstruction and rehabilitation phase, to overcome the challenges caused by the loss of jobs, food shortages and socio-economic insecurity. .

Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu expressed his heartfelt condolences to President Erdogan for the loss of precious lives and destruction of valuable properties during the recent monsoon and floods in Pakistan.

He emphasized that Turkey has arranged to provide aid to the flood victims through land and air routes.

He further said that today during Friday prayers, people in Turkey will pray for their Pakistani brothers and sisters and also provide more support. A Turkish delegation led by Interior Minister Soylu is visiting Pakistan as an expression of solidarity and support in the wake of the recent floods in the country. The delegation will also visit the flood-affected areas by air.

Federal Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rahman says that the floods caused by the monster monsoon have destroyed 45% of the crops across the country and especially in Sindh, causing a loss of about 10 billion dollars.

According to the Federal Minister's estimate, about 70 percent of the country's districts are under water, a third of Pakistan or an area equal to the total area of ​​Great Britain.

According to the official data, the number of districts affected by the catastrophic flood is 110, including 34 districts of Balochistan, 33 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 16 districts of Sindh and the remaining districts of Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

The government of Pakistan appealed for international aid while the United Nations issued a flash appeal of $160 million to the country to deal with the recent floods.
