On the occasion of Yum Ali in Karachi, processions were taken out from all over the city under tight security and ended at the designated destination while traffic plan was drawn up as a precautionary measure and mobile phone services remained closed in many areas of the city.

The main procession of Yum Ali started from Nishtar Park and ended at the Imambargah Hussainian Iranians in Kharadar.

DIG South Sharjeel Kharal said that the Yum Ali procession came to a peaceful end.

He said that 6,000 to 8,000 police personnel and 2,000 Rangers personnel were deployed for the security of the mourners.

The senior police officer said that mobile services were also suspended along the main procession routes.

Earlier, the Karachi Police had formulated an effective traffic and security plan for the Yum Ali procession, which was designed to minimize security and inconvenience to the citizens during the procession.

The police had closed the container from the exhibition to MA Jinnah Road to ensure security of the routes of Jalos, which resulted in the alternative path to all traffic from the exhibition.

The traffic plan stated that as soon as the procession started from Nishtar Park, the oncoming traffic would be diverted from Soldier Bazaar (Bahadur Yar Jang Road), Coast Guard, Inclusaria to Jubilee and Garden Zoo. Arrive at your destination.

Police said that traffic coming from Nazimabad and Liaquatabad would be diverted to Lasbela, Jamshed Road and Kashmir Road while those traveling from Stadium Road to MA Jinnah Road would be diverted to Kashmir Road, Society Light Signal It will be sent to Shahra-e-Qaedin and then to Shahra-e-Faisal.

The traffic plan stated that vehicles would not be allowed on the procession routes or towards the park, however, only Niaz distribution vehicles would be allowed to enter Bolton Market from the tower between 4pm and 6pm.

Earlier, Dawn had reported that Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon had directed Deputy Commissioner Sharqi to remove illegal rickshaw stands near the exhibition traffic intersection and make special arrangements for lighting, sanitation and cleaning in the main procession routes.

He further directed the officials to ensure emergency arrangements in all the major cities of the city on Yum Ali.

At the direction of the authorities, a control room was set up at Mama Parsi School under DC South to monitor the main procession.
