According to C-Net, the announcement came after a poll by Twitter new board member and stakeholder Elon Musk on a question from users about the edit button.

Earlier on Monday, the Securities and Exchange Commission revealed that Elon Musk had acquired a 9.2% stake in Twitter.
"Everyone is asking ... yes, we've been working on the edit button since last year," Twitter said of the edit button.
"We have not taken any plans from the pool," the statement said.
"We're starting testing in Twitter labs in the coming months to see what working and what's not working and what possible," Twitter said.
The report states that the edit button will be tested on Twitter Blue later this year, with a monthly subscription service of 3, after which you will be able to undo tweets and read articles without the hassle of advertising.
Twitter users have been searching for the edit button for years, but co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey said in 2020 that Twitter would probably not do so.
The announcement of the edit button by Twitter comes just days after a joke about adding an edit button on April Fool Day.

It may be recalled that Twitter had decided to introduce several new features in February last year, which were expected to dramatically change the user experience in this platform.
The company said that we want to create a product experience that will make it easier for people to communicate and discover in relevant geographies or communities.
Twitter explained that the feature is an extension of its Topics feature, which allows users to follow tweets and accounts of their interest.
A subsequent report states that Twitter is apparently working on a feature to undo send messages.
This was stated in a tweet by Twitter user and developer Jane Manchun Wong, who keeps an eye on various app updates.
