The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has constituted a team to track down and arrest the negative campaigners on social media over the tragic incident of an army helicopter crash during a flood relief operation in Balochistan.
Earlier, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of the Pakistan Army condemned the 'highly unacceptable and deplorable social media campaign', according to a Dawn newspaper report, saying that it was 'an insult to the families of martyrs and the rank and file of the armed forces. According to Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, the FIA team headed by Additional Director General of Cyber Crime Wing Mohammad Jafar will include Director (Cyber Crime, North) Waqaruddin Saeed and Additional Director Imran Haider.
It may be noted that after the helicopter crash, some social media activists and some political enthusiasts launched a vile and unacceptable online campaign to further their personal and political enmity, which was followed by people from all walks of life. There was a strong reaction from individuals, political leadership and state institutions.
The ruling alliance at the center is accusing the social media team of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) of launching a vile campaign at the behest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan. He was also accused of not attending the funeral.
However, the PTI leadership tried to negate this impression and President Arif Alvi called the families of the martyrs while Imran Khan visited the residence of the martyred Lt Gen Ali and offered condolences.
