The recent devastating floods have wreaked havoc across Swat district but it is the second natural calamity to hit the residents of Darab Shahgram village in 12 years after the July 2010 floods destroyed their houses, crops and gardens. were



On August 25, as unusual rains and floods wreaked havoc in Swat, painful memories of the tragic floods of 2020 were fresh in the minds of residents of Darab Shahgram village, reported maknews-21.

Bakht Jahan, the elder of the village, said that the flood has washed away our houses once again.

Bakht Jahan said that we were not expecting that once again another flood of such extraordinary intensity would attack them with more intensity than the last flood.

He said that we were not yet fully recovered from the devastation of the last flood, we were barely able to rebuild our houses and restore some agricultural land, but on August 25, the devastating flood hit us once again. Properties, lands and gardens were destroyed.

Bakht Jahan said that around 20 houses in the village have been washed away while many houses have been submerged in flood water.

"Fortunately, when we came to know about the flood, we immediately moved our family members to safer places," he said.

He said that the men of our family are staying in the mosque while we have sent our women to stay with our relatives.

He further said that they do not have the power and strength to bear any more such disaster in future.

He said that with no other place for the villagers except the land near the river, they have to rebuild their houses soon as they cannot stay under the open sky for long.

Ajmal Shah, another resident of the destroyed village, said that we lost all the stored food as well as ready crops and gardens, while our relatives and people from nearby villages are arranging food for us.

He said that so far a few local social organizations have contacted him and collected data on the damage, but no government agency has yet reached out to him.

Ajmal Shah further said that we need food and other items, the government agencies are requested to provide us with the necessary items immediately so that the homeless people can live.

Darab Shahgram village is located near the famous Wadi Madin in the Tehsil of Bahrain, which is famous for its agricultural production including vegetables, grains and fruits, but the devastating flood has destroyed almost the entire agricultural land, while the village Most of the settled families depended on agricultural production.
