At least three people have been killed and dozens injured after a mine dam burst in central South Africa, flooding houses and cars.
According to a report published in maknews-21, television footage showed slurried water flowing out of the mine towards a nearby residential area.
Water from the breached dam washed away roads and houses in Jagersfontein, a town about 100 kilometers southwest of Bloemfontein, the capital of the Free State province.

A spokesman for the Free State prime minister said in a statement that the mine's dam had broken and water had washed away houses and cars in the area.
The spokesperson further said that 3 bodies have been pulled out of the water.
The Prime Minister's spokesperson further said that 40 people, including a pregnant woman, were taken to the hospital, out of which 4 people have broken bones in their hands and feet, while others are injured and affected by hypothermia.
A substation in Jagersfontein is without power due to being buried in mud, the National Electricity Supply Agency says.

Electricity supplier Eskom said in a statement that due to the current situation in the Jagersfontein area and the inaccessibility of substations, it is impossible to estimate when power supply will be restored or the extent of damage to the grid station. .
The prime minister's spokesperson added that search and rescue efforts are underway while authorities are shifting people from the affected areas to nearby farms.
The provincial social welfare department said that some houses were completely collapsed and destroyed due to the flood, leaving the affected people with nothing but the clothes on their bodies.
