In the final of the Asia Cup 2022, Sri Lanka became the new champion by defeating the Pakistani batting by 23 runs after Rajapakse's brilliant innings of 71 runs.

In the Asia Cup final played in Dubai, Babar Azam won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first.

Naseem Shah started with a wide ball, but his spinning third ball blew the wickets of Kaushal Mendes and gave Pakistan their first victory.

Naseem Shah, living up to the expectations, took the team's wicket in the first over and conceded only 4 runs.

In the second over, Nissanka hit Mohammad Hasnain for two fours and took the score to 16 runs, after which Naseem hit a four in the second over to make the score 23 in 3 overs.

Babar Azam replaced Hasnain with Haris Rauf for the fourth over, who dismissed the ambitious Nissanka on the second ball.

The skipper took Nissanka's catch off the ball of Harris and caused Sri Lanka a big loss and conceded 5 runs.

On the fifth ball, Haris Rauf troubled Rajapakse and appealed for lbw, which was challenged by the umpire, but the decision was not in his favour.

Shadab Khan bowled the seventh over and conceded 5 runs and Sri Lanka batted confidently in this over.

Captain Babar Azam changed the bowling order, bringing in off-spinner Iftikhar Ahmed, who conceded 6 runs in the first three balls, including a four.

Iftikhar Ahmed vindicated the captain's decision by dismissing Dhananjaya De Silva himself on the fourth ball, which was Sri Lanka's fourth wicket to fall.

Shadab Khan bowled captain Shanaka in the next over and got his first wicket in the match, but Hasaranga hit a four on the next ball and similarly he got 2 fours in his next over.

Iftikhar Ahmed bowled his third over which was the 12th over of the innings and he conceded 8 runs, including a four.

Muhammad Hasnain was called for the 13th over, but the batsmen took him lightly, hitting a four and a six and scoring 14 runs.

Wanindu Hasaranga hit Haris Rauf for two consecutive fours on the third and fourth balls in the 15th over, but Haris came back and was caught by wicketkeeper Rizwan, this was his 50th wicket of his T20 career.

Muhammad Nawaz bowled the 16th over of the innings, in which he gave away 4 runs, but Naseem Shah was costed in the 17th over, in which Rajapakse and Karuna Ratne hit one six each and scored 16 runs.

Shadab Khan dropped a catch in the 18th over to set up the successful batsman of the innings, Raja Pakse, after which he completed his half-century.

Mohammad Hasnain bowled well in the 19th over and did not allow the Sri Lankan batsmen to pick up any boundaries, but Shadab Khan once again fielded poorly on the last ball and gave Rajapaksa another chance and also got a six.

Shadab Khan interfered and prevented Asif Ali from taking the catch and the ball went out of bounds due to the collision of the two fielders.

Haris Rauf took the most 3 wickets for Pakistan.

When Sri Lanka started bowling, Dilshan Madhushanka continued to bowl wides and also hit a boundary, thus getting 9 runs before the regular start of the over.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan failed to bat quickly in the opening two overs and scored only 16 runs.

Pakistan got their first boundary in the second ball of the third over when Rizwan played to the bowlers to reach the boundary.

Sri Lanka's Pramod Madhushan bowled the fourth over and took the valuable wicket of Babar Azam to give Pakistan their first blow.

The fast bowler did not allow the new batsman Fakhrzaman to open the account on the next ball and bowled him.

Iftikhar Ahmed and Muhammad Rizwan shared a good partnership for the third wicket and in the 12th over, Iftikhar hit Hasaranga de Silva for a six and a four to ease the pressure and reduce the required run rate.

Iftikhar Ahmed was caught in the boundary trying to play a high shot in the 14th over, Bandara took a good catch from Iftikhar who scored 32 runs.

Mohammad Nawaz once again came in ahead of his number to bat but failed to play aggressively and scored 6 runs off 9 balls.

Mohammad Rizwan certainly batted well in difficult times but showed slowness to complete his half-century with a six off 47 balls.

Hasaranga De Silva ended Mohammad Rizwan's innings when he tried to play a high shot but Ganathilaka took a good catch on the boundary.

Muhammad Rizwan played an innings of 55 runs off 49 balls and Iftikhar Ahmed was the only batsman who managed to cross the double figure.

Asif Ali failed once again and failed to save his wickets off Hasaranga.

Hasaranga gave Sri Lanka another big wicket by dismissing Khushdil Shah, who scored 2 runs.

Shadab Khan was the 8th batsman to be dismissed for 8 runs, Thekshana took his wicket.

Naseem Shah also got out after scoring only 4 runs, then Pakistan's 9th wicket fell for 125 runs.

The entire Pakistan team was bowled out for 147 runs in the last over.

Sri Lanka's Bhanuka Rajapakse was adjudged Man of the Match and Vanindu Hasaranga de Silva was named Man of the Series.

Earlier, Babar Azam said that our confidence is high, as a team our desire is to reach the finals and win the event and we have played very well.
