It may be recalled that the FIA had launched a crackdown on social media activists for allegedly campaigning against the army and its chief after former Prime Minister Imran Khan was ousted through a no-confidence motion.
The FIA had arrested at least eight people from across Punjab who were suspected of being involved in a campaign against the army.
An FIA official told Dawn that they had arrested about eight suspects from different parts of Punjab, including Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad and Gujarat, in connection with a social media campaign against the army and judiciary. More arrests are expected in the coming days.
Earlier, in a meeting of Pakistan Army formations, the recent criticism of the institution on social media was also taken note of.
A statement from the ISPR said that the forum had taken note of the recent propaganda campaign by some quarters to discredit the Pakistan Army and create division between the institution and the society.
