* Who was Lieutenant General Sarfaraz Ali who was martyred in the helicopter accident?*



 * Lt. Gen. Sarfaraz Ali of Pakistan Army, who was martyred in a helicopter accident in Balochistan yesterday, was an intelligent and competent officer.

 Lt. Gen. Sarfraz Ali belonged to Lahore, he was commissioned in Azad Kashmir Regiment in 1989.

 Lt. Gen. Sarfaraz held key positions in the Pakistan Army, at the time of his martyrdom he was posted as Corps Commander 12 Corps (also known as Quetta Corps) and was overseeing relief operations in flood-affected areas in Balochistan.


 Earlier, Lt. Gen. Sarfraz was also an instructor at Command and Staff College Quetta, he also commanded the Triple One Brigade.

 Lt. Gen. Sarfraz was also the Director General of Military Intelligence, he also served as IGF Balochistan during the difficult times.

 He was twice awarded the Basalat medal for his outstanding performance in the war against terrorism.

 Lt Gen Sarfaraz is survived by a widow, a daughter and two sons.

 It should be noted that the helicopter of Pakistan Army Aviation went missing while going from Othal to Karachi yesterday.

 According to ISPR, the helicopter was carrying 6 people including Korkamander 12 Corps and the helicopter was engaged in flood relief operation in Lasbela.
 According to ISPR, Corps Commander 12 Corps Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali along with Director General (DG) Pakistan Coast Guard Major General Amjad and 12 Corps Engineer Brigadier Khalid were on board the helicopter.

 Pilot Major Saeed, co-pilot Major Talha and crew chief Naik Mudassar were among the people on board the helicopter.

 According to ISPR, the wreckage of the helicopter has been found today from Musa Goth, all the people in the helicopter including Corps Commander Quetta were martyred, the helicopter accident happened due to bad weather.

It added that the accident occurred due to bad weather, as per initial investigations.

The chopper was on flood relief operations in Lasbela, Balochistan when it lost contact with ATC [air traffic control].

Six individuals were on board including Commander XII Corps Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali, who was supervising flood relief operations in Balochistan.

Police sources had told Dawn that area where the chopper went missing was mountainous terrain, without even jeep paths, making it extremely difficult for search and rescue parties.

“Either you go on foot or motorcycles or conduct aerial surveillance,” a senior official had said.
