Australia swept the series by an easy 25 runs in the final match of the ODI series against New Zealand.



The New Zealand team was visiting Australia for the one-day series and the final match of the series was played today in Cannes where the visiting team won the toss and elected to field first.

Hosts Australia won on a tough wicket thanks to veteran batsman Steve Smith's responsible innings of 105 runs.

Both the openers, including captain Aaron Finch, returned to the pavilion at a score of 14.

A long partnership between Smith and Labuchane for the second wicket took the score to 134 runs during which both the batsmen scored half-centuries.

Lebouchane was out for 52 off Ferguson, followed by Alex Kere with 42 to support Smith.

Smith scored 105 off 131 balls with 11 fours and a six and was dismissed for 203, with Alex Carey returning to the pavilion with 42.

Australia scored 267 runs for 5 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

New Zealand's Trent Boult took the most 2 wickets.

Despite a contribution of 49 from the openers in the final match of the series, New Zealand were bowled out for 242 runs.

Glenn Phillips top-scored with 47 and James Neesham scored 36 to give the team some hope of victory but the Australian bowlers failed them.

Even Mitchell Santner's 30 runs could not save New Zealand from a 25 run defeat.

Australia's Mitchell Starc took 3 wickets, Cameron Green and Sean Abbott took 2 wickets each.

Steve Smith was adjudged the man of the match.

The second match of the series was played in Cannes on 8 September, in which the batsmen of both the teams failed to score big.

In the second match, Australia scored 195 runs for 6 wickets, while in reply, the New Zealand team lost the match by 113 runs after being bowled out for 82 runs.

Australia swept the series by defeating the New Zealand team in all three matches.

Steve Smith was adjudged Man of the Series for his total of 167 runs.
